January 2016

I’m Going Back to Where I Came From…

Yesterday, I went home (and am home now)…

It was a surprise… I just kind of showed up. The advantage of having your own car… you can just go if you want to go.

It’s nice to be home after another long week… to hang out with family for a while.

The little siblings are dressed up in these costumes this morning… obviously it’s time to be a tiger and lady bug! Haha

I also just finished making a mess in the kitchen (I cleaned it up!) making homemade deodorant and acne treatment stuff. Haha We will see how those work after they are finished setting.

… we shall see Pinterest… we shall see.

Snow Glows White on the Mountain Tonight…

There was no school Friday because…

There was no school yesterday because… well… it is the weekend. BUT also snow.

Yesterday, along with attending a gameroom meeting, I helped build an igloo!

While the snowy/icy wind was quite bitter, the inside of the igloo was peaceful and protecting.

I can’t really remember the last time I stayed out and played in the snow until I could barely move… until yesterday. It’s kind of fun… cold… but fun.

Everything is now in the process of melting, thanks to the sun and blue skies. We will see if UNCA decides to hold classes tomorrow.

I’m pretty sure my little sister believes that this is the work of Elsa…

Elsa is going crazy again… she needs to calm down. Haha.

Today I’m catching up on homework… slowly but surely.

As the snow melts, I hope everyone continues to stay warm and safe.

Back to Middle School…

When I was in 6th or 7th grade I had a YouTube channel with an appropriate middle schooler username “luvlife4eva.”That username has since been changed… and shall not be revealed in an attempt to keep some of that middle school past hidden. Haha

I was remembering it today as I sat at work (in the Game Room) watching lyric videos on YouTube.

I use to make lyric videos (along with some other videos… but mostly lyric). I enjoyed it… picking out the songs… listening and matching up the words to run perfectly in time with the music. It was sort of relaxing.

I’m not sure why I quit, to be honest… maybe I will pick it up again… eventually.

As I was looking at the account today, I noticed one of my videos had 826,729 views. While that is not a ton… that is quite a lot in my book. It’s my piece of fame on my middle school YouTube account.

The song was called “Good Directions” by Billy Currington. The caption says “Love this song!!!” Even though I don’t remember ever actually listening to it… besides to make this video and I never listen to it now…. I supposedly I LOVED it in middle school.

Now if you look it up… you will probably find me… and then my middle school weirdness will be revealed… Oh no! Haha

I thought I would go ahead and include a picture from my 8th grade dance (above)… just keep going with the middle school awkwardness. Good times… good times.

Anyways, it is suppose to snow quite a bit here in North Carolina tonight. My NC State classes have already canceled… now we will see what UNCA decides. Be safe, everyone.

A Week in a Day

It’s funny how fast times goes… how fast it slips through your hands.

It’s been over a week since I last posted… uffdah.

I’ve been working on time management. It feels like a constant battle, really.

Not only managing school work… but realizing that I need to make time for things other than studying. One of the more important things I have learned about college in the pass two and a half years is how much you need a balance between work and play. I still struggle with this balance.

It can be difficult to juggle studying, working, friends, family, sleep, food, and time for yourself (in no order of importance).

I’ve gotten to the point many times in the last couple years where I have forgotten this balance and become over stressed… which I’m sure shows a little through these blog posts.

The thing I most often forget is to take time for myself.

When you are constantly being stimulated by school and work stress… even people stress… it’s important to take time to just sit back and do something you enjoy doing by yourself.

Lately, since I have been trying to stop picking my nails, I’ve gotten into painting my nails again. Last semester, I tried to crochet… but have left my yarn and hook at home for a bit.

Even this blog is a way to take some time for myself…get my thoughts and ideas down somewhere.

It feels like I’ve been running non-stop every weekday… 7:30am to 11:30pm… but it’s all the more reason to look forward to the weekend.

Take care of yourselves, everyone.

This is Zoe…

Sometime during winter break, I saw the chalkboard in my brothers bedroom had been cleaned in a way that vaguely resembled a woman’s face.

So… I obviously had to add onto it and make it look even more like a woman’s face (somewhat).

I was just enjoying drawing on the chalkboard when my little brother (Nate) walks in and exclaims “did you draw that?! It’s great! Like… the best drawing I’ve seen.”

It’s funny how much of a confidence booster (and destroyer) kids can be sometimes.

Here I was just doodling… thinking it wasn’t a very good face at all and then walks in this little person saying that it was the best ever. It was one of those cute/ funny kids moments.

Anyways, after I drew it… it was on the chalkboard for a while. It still is, I think. No one touched it… which normally does not happen.

When I was leaving for school (to move back in) this last Saturday I happened to peek into Nate and Isaacs bedroom to find that Nate had written “This is Zoe” above my drawing.

Now… I don’t know if he meant it was a drawing of me or it was by me but either way… it caught me a little off guard. He had taken the time to acknowledge the drawing again.

While the “Z” still needs work… it is amazing how much Nate has learned about spelling and reading in just half a year.

New Semester…Here I Come

I just finished my first three days of class.

It’s just the beginning of a new semester.

Since UNCA classes have not started yet, it’s been quiet on campus.

My study group has been trying to get organized… writing down all our assignments in planners, getting notebooks together, and getting a head start on homework.

I decided to take a picture of February because it is so colorful…

So many colors… oh boy…

Spring 2016… here I come.

Back to the Books…

I happened to stumble upon this infographic while browsing through Pinterest…

The infographic reminded me again that school starts back on Wednesday (Jan 6th)… not UNCA but NC State. Whooo…

UNCA housing doesn’t open until this Saturday (Jan 9th)… and since I goofed and forgot to request early arrival… I will be commuting for a few days.

A few long… early days.

It’s not the end of the world… I only live an hour away and it might get me to explore Asheville some since I will be taking the time to drive up there.

Anyways… while I don’t usually trust random statics (I mean statistics… although I’m not sure I trust statics either. Haha) on the internet, I found this one interesting and a little… funny.

Studying…. funny? No…

I can relate to the infographic… that is what I find funny.

Sometimes, homework for one engineering course takes hours (I’m talking 10… 11… 12 hours to complete) and that’s homework… not studying. Haha

Honestly,  I’m probably exaggerating. I’ve never sat down and timed myself. But boy, it sure feels like it takes forever on those beautiful, sunny days!

Now that it is finally getting colder… maybe I will be more okay staying inside and studying. Maybe.

I also have all NC State classes this semester… it appears. This means no matching up schedules… hoping to get a Spring Break. Except for housing schedule differences… I should probably remember those from now on…

Happy New Year!

It’s the second day of the new year!

So far… so good. Haha

New Years Eve, I went contra dancing with Torey and his mother!

Definitely more active and more social than the year I stayed up watching Cirque du Soleil by myself.

And there were moments when watching some of the dancers was about the same as watching some of those Cirque du Soleil performers. Haha

Needless to say, it was a ton of fun and I’m glad I was invited along.

If you would like to know more about it… here is a link.

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something.” – Neil Gaiman

May 2016 bring you joy and good health. May your eyes see the beauty and love in the world instead of the darkness and hate. Here’s to all the new experiences and memories waiting to be made… lets go out and make some mistakes!
